Planning a Walt Disney World vacation in 2027? This could be one of the most exciting—and potentially confusing—years to visit in quite some time.
New lands are coming. Attractions are changing. A brand-new Disney resort is opening. Dining options and resort perks continue to evolve, and construction throughout Walt Disney World could affect everything from transportation to your morning park strategy.
So before you book your trip—or if you’ve already booked one—here are some of the biggest Disney World changes for 2027 you’ll want to know about.

1. Monstropolis Is Coming to Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing for a major transformation with Monstropolis, a new area inspired by Monsters, Inc.
Phased openings are expected to begin in 2027, bringing new attractions and experiences to the park.
The addition could also significantly change how we approach Hollywood Studios in the morning. Once a major new attraction opens, the traditional rope-drop strategy doesn’t necessarily remain the best strategy.

2. Tropical Americas Is Transforming Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom is getting a major new area themed around the Tropical Americas, including experiences inspired by Indiana Jones and Encanto.
This could have a particularly interesting effect on Animal Kingdom’s morning crowds.
Right now, Flight of Passage is one of the biggest rope-drop destinations in the park. Once the new attractions open, guests could split between Pandora and the new Tropical Americas area. That could create some great opportunities elsewhere in Animal Kingdom.
3. Cars Is Coming to Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom has some enormous changes ahead, including a new Cars-inspired Piston Peak area.
Disney hasn’t provided a firm opening date in the material we’re using for this article, so we wouldn’t recommend planning a vacation around it being open just yet. But it’s another example of just how dramatically Magic Kingdom will evolve over the next several years.
4. Villains Land Is on the Horizon
Perhaps one of the most anticipated Disney projects is the future Villains-themed land planned beyond Big Thunder Mountain.
There isn’t a firm opening date yet. If you’re dreaming of Maleficent, Hades and other classic Disney villains having a larger presence in Magic Kingdom, this is definitely one project to watch.
5. Rope Drop Strategy Is About to Change
Here’s something Disney travelers don’t always consider: The newest attraction isn’t necessarily where you should go first.
When a new land opens, thousands of guests may immediately head toward it at park opening. If experiencing the newest attraction isn’t your family’s top priority, going in the opposite direction could allow you to experience several existing headliners with significantly lighter morning crowds.
Your 2027 rope-drop strategy should be based on what’s happening during your actual travel dates, not what worked on your previous Disney vacation.
6. New Attractions May Have Some Growing Pains
There’s something exciting about being among the first guests to experience a brand-new Disney attraction. But new attractions can also experience:
- Temporary closures
- Longer waits
- Virtual queues
- Changing Lightning Lane procedures
- Operational adjustments
- Unexpected downtime
If riding something during its first few weeks isn’t important to you, waiting a few months after opening may provide a smoother experience.
7. Resort Construction Can Affect Your Vacation
A beautiful room isn’t the only consideration when choosing a Disney Resort. Construction can temporarily affect transportation, restaurants, pools, walking routes and even rideshare pickup and drop-off locations.
And construction schedules can change. That’s why we recommend checking your resort when you book and again shortly before you leave.
8. Keep Checking for Disney Resort Discounts
One of our favorite Disney planning strategies is simple: Don’t stop checking prices after you book.
Disney releases different vacation promotions throughout the year, and an offer released after you’ve already reserved your vacation could potentially save you money.
It’s also important to compare room-only discounts with vacation-package promotions. One isn’t automatically better than the other.

9. The Free Water Park Benefit Returns in 2027
Disney’s complimentary water park admission on resort check-in day is expected to return for eligible Disney Resort guests in 2027.
One important exception noted in our source material involves Fort Wilderness campsites, which aren’t expected to qualify for the benefit.
For families arriving in Orlando earlier in the day, this perk could turn arrival day into an extra Disney experience without using one of your regular theme park admission days.
10. Deluxe Resorts Still Have an Extra-Hours Advantage
Price isn’t the only difference between Disney Resort categories. Eligible Deluxe Resort guests can have access to Extended Evening Theme Park Hours on select nights.
Depending on your travel dates and itinerary, those additional hours can potentially make a Deluxe Resort stay much more valuable to your family.
11. Disney’s Airport Luggage Service Is Expanding
Disney’s airport luggage-transfer service has continued to evolve.
According to the source material, eligibility expanded from Southwest passengers to include certain guests flying American Airlines and United Airlines, while resort availability expanded beyond Value Resorts to include Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
Because the program continues to change, don’t automatically assume your reservation qualifies—or doesn’t qualify. Check again before your vacation.
12. Disney Lakeshore Lodge Opens in 2027
Disney is adding another resort to the Magic Kingdom area. Disney Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open July 1, 2027.
Plans highlighted in our source material include lake houses, a two-story gallery featuring archival Disney artwork and a wetlands-inspired water playground.
Its nature-focused setting should make it an interesting alternative to neighboring Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness.
13. Disney Dining Continues to Change
Don’t assume the restaurant you loved on your last vacation will be exactly the same next time. Disney frequently changes:
- Menus
- Prices
- Restaurant concepts
- Reservation policies
- Dining Plan participation
- Operating hours
Your dining plan should therefore be based on current information for your vacation, rather than a restaurant list from a previous trip.
14. The Deluxe Disney Dining Plan Returns
Disney dining fans have another option returning in 2027: the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan.
The plan is described as including two table-service credits per day, compared with one table-service credit under the standard plan.
That can be a considerable amount of food. It won’t necessarily be the right financial choice for every family, but guests planning multiple character meals and table-service experiences may want to compare the numbers.
15. Leave Some Extra Room in Your Food Budget
Disney food prices change throughout the year.
A dollar here and a few cents there may not sound significant, but multiply those increases across breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks for an entire family over several days. It adds up.
If you’re budgeting a 2027 vacation now, don’t assume today’s menu prices will still be accurate when you travel.
Bonus: More Magic Kingdom Changes Are Coming
Disney is also expected to introduce a new Magic Kingdom ferry sometime in 2027, helping transport guests between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom.
And another Magic Kingdom classic is changing. A reimagined Carousel of Progress is expected in late spring 2027, although a specific opening date has not been announced.
Should You Visit Disney World in 2027?
There will certainly be construction and change, but there will also be plenty that’s new to experience.
The most important thing is to avoid planning a 2027 Disney vacation using outdated advice. Your resort promotion, transportation options, morning crowds, Lightning Lane strategy and favorite restaurant could all change—and an attraction you thought would be open could experience a schedule change.
