Disney Genie+ has been retired, but Lightning Lane access is still available at Walt Disney World—and the newer system gives you more opportunities to plan before your vacation begins. This guide explains Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass, when you can buy them, how attraction selections work and how to make the most of them on your park day.
Quick answer: Multi Pass lets you reserve up to three eligible experiences in advance, Single Pass is purchased separately for select high-demand attractions, and Premier Pass provides one-time Lightning Lane access to every eligible attraction in one park without choosing arrival windows.
What Are Lightning Lane Passes?
A Lightning Lane entrance is a shorter queue available at participating attractions and experiences. It does not eliminate every wait, and availability is never guaranteed, but it can save valuable time—especially on busy park days.
Walt Disney World currently offers three paid options:
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass: Choose up to three eligible experiences and arrival windows in one park before your visit. After you redeem your first selection, you may choose another eligible experience, subject to availability.
- Lightning Lane Single Pass: Purchase access to one of the most in-demand attractions that is not included with Multi Pass. Guests may buy up to two Single Passes per day.
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Receive one-time Lightning Lane entry to each eligible attraction in one park for one day, without scheduling arrival windows. Quantities are limited.
Prices vary by date, park and attraction. Current prices and availability appear in the My Disney Experience app.
When Can You Purchase Lightning Lane Passes?
Sales open at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the date your purchase window begins.
- Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel or another eligible select hotel: Purchase beginning seven days before the first day of your stay for the entire length of your stay, up to 14 days.
- All other guests: Purchase beginning three days before your park visit. The exact window can depend on your ticket type and whether a theme park reservation is required.
You need valid theme park admission linked to your My Disney Experience account. A theme park reservation may also be required for some ticket types.
How to Buy a Lightning Lane Pass
- Download or update the My Disney Experience app and sign in.
- Link every guest’s valid admission and make sure your Family & Friends list is correct.
- On the app home screen, find the Lightning Lane section and select Purchase.
- Choose your date, theme park and the guests who will use the pass.
- Select Multi Pass, Single Pass or Premier Pass. With Multi Pass, choose your initial attractions and arrival windows before checkout.
- Review the details and complete the purchase.
Lightning Lane passes are nonrefundable and nontransferable, so check your date, park and travel party carefully before buying.
How Multi Pass Attraction Tiers Work
At Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, advance Multi Pass selections are divided into two groups. You may generally choose one attraction from the first group and two from the second group—or choose all three from the second group. Disney’s Animal Kingdom currently does not use this tier structure.
Attractions and groupings can change. Popular first-group examples include Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT and Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Once you redeem your first Multi Pass selection on your park day, open the app and look for another available experience. You do not need to wait until all three original selections have been used.
Using Lightning Lane on Your Park Day
- Open the My Disney Experience app and review your plans before arriving.
- Go to the Lightning Lane entrance during the arrival window shown in the app.
- Tap in using a MagicBand, MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile pass, Key to the World Card or admission card.
- After using your first Multi Pass selection, immediately check the app for another selection.
- Continue booking one additional experience at a time as availability allows.
Each pass includes only one Lightning Lane entry per attraction per day. Standby queues remain available, so a smart plan often combines Lightning Lane selections with lower-wait standby attractions, shows, meals and breaks.
How Lightning Lane Works With Park Hopper
Your initial Multi Pass selections must be in the same park. After you redeem your first selection, guests with Park Hopper benefits may use the app to choose an eligible Multi Pass experience in another park, subject to availability. You do not need to purchase a second Multi Pass for that day.
Which Attractions Use Single Pass?
Single Pass is reserved for a small group of headline attractions that are not included in Multi Pass. Current examples include:
- Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run
- EPCOT: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Avatar Flight of Passage
Disney can change participating attractions, so always check the official list and the app before purchasing.
Is Premier Pass Worth It?
Premier Pass is the simplest and most flexible option: you can use each available Lightning Lane in one park once, in any order, without choosing return times. It may be helpful for a short trip, a very busy day or a family that values maximum flexibility. Because the price varies and can be substantially higher than the other options, compare it with your priorities before purchasing.
A Simple Strategy for Better Results
- Buy when your window opens. The most popular attractions and times can disappear quickly.
- Prioritize hard-to-get experiences. Choose the attraction with the most limited availability as your first-group selection.
- Make the first return time reasonably early. Redeeming it unlocks the ability to make another selection.
- Refresh the app. Availability can change as other guests modify their plans.
- Use early mornings wisely. Ride a lower-wait attraction through standby while saving Lightning Lane for later.
- Allow travel time. Walt Disney World is large, and crossing a park—or hopping to another park—takes time.
Common Lightning Lane Questions
Do I have to buy a pass?
No. Standby queues remain available at participating attractions, and many shows and experiences do not require Lightning Lane access.
Can I change a selection?
Yes. You may modify eligible Multi Pass and Single Pass selections in the app, subject to availability. Review the final details before confirming a change.
Can everyone in my party choose different attractions?
You can make selections for eligible members of your connected travel party. If the group wants to split up, carefully select which guests are included with each reservation.
Does a Lightning Lane mean no wait?
No. It generally provides a shorter wait than the standby queue, but actual waits vary.
Are PhotoPass benefits included?
Lightning Lane Multi Pass includes select photo benefits, including digital downloads of certain attraction photos and videos from your day. Check the app for current inclusions.
